Valoroo Philippines: Coastal Impact at Immuki Island

At Valoroo, we believe that giving back should be as important as scaling teams. Through our Valoroo Philippines team, we led a Valoroo Cares initiative in Immuki Island, La Union — a quiet, coastal gem in the northern Philippines.

This outreach was more than just a day of volunteering. It was a hands-on, heart-forward project that empowered local communities while restoring natural ecosystems.

Where Is Immuki Island?

Immuki Island is a small tidal island off the coast of Balaoan, La Union, in the Philippines. Known for its scenic tide pools, mangrove forests, and fishing culture, the area is also home to families who rely on the ocean for food and income.

Unfortunately, erosion, pollution, and limited resources have threatened both the local environment and livelihood. That’s why Valoroo Philippines chose it as a focus for community support and environmental restoration.

What We Did: Projects Led by Valoroo Philippines

🌱 Mangrove Planting (Locally called “Bakawan”)

Mangroves protect coastlines and serve as nurseries for marine life. Our team joined residents in replanting bakawan along the shore to help stabilize the island and rebuild its fragile coastal ecosystem.

🍇 Sea Grape Farming (Lato-Lato)

We worked alongside local seaweed farmers to help harvest and clean lato-lato, also known as sea grapes. This nutrient-rich seaweed is a sustainable food source and income stream for many families in Immuki.

🧂 Sea Salt Making

Traditional sea salt production is an important livelihood in Immuki. Valoroo Philippines supported the process—drying, packing, and donating better tools to make the work safer and more efficient.
