When the Ground Shook, Compassion Moved: Valoroo Cares Responds to the Cebu Earthquake

On the evening of September 30, 2025, at 9:59 PM, a powerful magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck off the northern coast of Cebu, shaking homes, churches, and the hearts of thousands across the region. The quake’s shallow depth—only about 10 kilometers—made its impact devastating. Within seconds, centuries-old structures crumbled, power lines fell, and frightened families ran out into the streets seeking safety from collapsing walls and relentless aftershocks.

The disaster claimed the lives of dozens of people and injured hundreds more. Thousands of families were displaced, forced to sleep in open areas or makeshift shelters as aftershocks continued to rattle the province for days. What was once a familiar rhythm of daily life suddenly turned into uncertainty, grief, and survival.

Amid this crisis, Valoroo’s Cebu team found themselves not only witnesses to the tragedy—but also instruments of hope. Even as they personally experienced the tremors and disruptions, they came together to help those most affected through Valoroo Cares, the company’s outreach and community initiative.

From Fear to Purpose

Within hours of the quake, our Cebu-based employees began coordinating relief efforts—collecting essential supplies, reaching out to local contacts, and mapping the hardest-hit areas. Supported by the broader Valoroo organization, the team prepared and distributed relief packs containing food, drinking water, pails, and temporary shelter materials to families who had lost nearly everything.

For many volunteers, this was more than just a mission—it was a humbling reminder of humanity’s shared fragility and strength.

“We went there to give, but we also received something in return—a reminder of gratitude and humility,”
Zwanette Carzano, Valoroo Cebu Volunteer

Her words reflect what everyone who joined the mission felt: that the act of helping others can also heal us from within.

Even in the midst of chaos, the team saw the power of small actions—each gesture, each pack handed over, each comforting word shared—collectively bringing light to people who had endured so much loss.

“Your small act of kindness may be someone else’s biggest moment of hope,”
Elaine Abad, Valoroo Cebu Volunteer

The Heart of Valoroo Cares

Valoroo Cares has always been about more than corporate giving. It’s about empowering our people to respond with empathy, turning compassion into tangible action. Our Cebu volunteers, together with the support of Valoroo Cares, embodied our core value of People First—showing that real impact begins with those who choose to care, even when times are difficult.

Despite the challenges of limited access, damaged roads, and ongoing tremors, our team continued distributing aid and comforting families who had nowhere else to turn. Their courage and unity stand as a testament to what makes Valoroo different—not just as a company, but as a community that looks after one another.

Through every relief effort, every donation, and every act of kindness, Valoroo Cares continues to live out the belief that helping others rebuild is part of rebuilding ourselves as well.

Moving Forward with Hope

While the scars of the earthquake will take time to heal, the spirit of Cebu—and the compassion of its people—remain unshaken. Our Cebu team reminded us all that leadership through empathy is not measured by scale, but by sincerity.

At Valoroo, we stand committed to supporting communities in times of need, and to fostering a culture where caring for others is second nature.

Because when the ground shakes, it is compassion that keeps us standing.
